My cousin's daughter decided to get in touch with her father's people in the U.S. during the 90's. She was the product of a Canadian mother and a U.S. Army deserter during the Vietnam era. The marriage ended, he split back home after the war and my cousin raised the girl here in Canada. During a visit she was smitten with a kissin' cousin from North Carolina and moved down there to live with him. Her first weekend in Salisbury, NC, there was a KKK parade down the main drag. In the 1990's. It sounded like one of those old sci-fi movies, "The Land That Time Forgot". She stayed down there about a year and her stories never failed to amaze.
