So Obama calls their bluff, and how many people lose their homes?

And, anyway, what makes you think the suffering would be a win for Dems? Remember the 2010 elections? People were pissed off because the economy was in the shitter. And whose fault was that? That's right -- the Republicans. And who made big gains in that election?

how the Media was played. Obama's team didn't put enough juice behind their narrative control, they let a lot of the story be told by people that hated him, on both sides of the aisle while he concentrated on trying to get some work done. As a result, the accomplishments of his first two years, while one of the best progressive records in our lifetimes, was completely ignored.

      •  I would also argue it was due (0+ / 0-)

to progressive activists as well as democratic machine elements getting complacent. Same thing happened in 2000.

that some Progressive activists/pundits became virulent Obamahaters and spread a counterwave against him through the Left and it's media, causing a lot of Progressives to sit out 2010 to "teach the Dems a Lesson".
All part of the same mistake on Obama's and his team's part, that they didn't control their messaging well enough.

          •  I don't tend to think (0+ / 0-)

those types have as much influence as they think they do here on dailykos. the major democratic constituency groups aren't really the activists.

            But it sure didn't help...

but at other, more Leftier than thou sites, TruthOut, Nation, Alternet et cetera, it was full saturation. Any attempt to point out a success from Team Blue was met with "Obamabot!" and that was the nicer stuff. I was getting attacked on every string by three, four, more of these trolls every time I logged on, to the point where I feel like I was basically driven out.

              •  U give the left way more power than it has (0+ / 0-)

If u haven't noticed basically anything that is truly left is essentially ignored in this country.  So blaming the for 2010 makes no sense at all.

                •  It was only one of the factors (0+ / 0-)

but I heard a lot of crowing, the first couple weeks after the 2010 election about "teaching..." After they sobered up and realized the fu(kup, they kinda shut up and now they try to minimize it, using roughly the argument you just brought.
