Nappe and GoGoEverton, when someone as prominent as the President takes a strong stand and fights for it, people listen and there's a "teachable moment."  It educates people.  It contributes to the continuing effort to improve the status of the poor.

Isn't it Obama who keeps saying it won't be quick or easy?  But then he takes the expedient route.  That hypocrisy at the highest level.

      this from different standpoints.

IMHO, Obama was trying to at least be sure those on UI etc. were't thrown to the wolves. That said, I cannot say how he viewed (or views) the future, so I don't really know where that leaves us. I can only guess and I hate to tar someone with a brush of unknowing.

The numbers I have seen $250K v. $400K and the relative moneys both raise through taxation seems small enough to be able to work with so I can live with that. We can fill that gap by cutting from DOD (if I had my way).

While ideology is important to me, I try not to let it stand in the way of pragmatism for the most part. Though I am guilty of of that myself from time to time.

up your position.  All that does - especially with an opponent who is so consistently recalcitrant - is signal you are willing to back down.  Nothing at all pragmatic in undermining your own negotiating position.
