    There are a couple other "p" words that often get overlooked in these discussions - especially the sux/rox discussions. Those missing words are "policy" and "politics".  

    You outline some policies you would like to see implemented. You also recognize the political realities that make much of that agenda not only extremely difficult, but perhaps impossible at the moment.  So a good, meaty, discussion can be had on the what policies can be implemented that move from the current bad to the less than ideal better.

    Where those discussions go off the rails is when diarists and commenters start going for the personal over the policy and poltics.  That includes mind-reading about motivations and intentions. It leads to assertions along the lines that "Obama is looking out for his wealthy friends", and then trickles down to charges that supporters of a particular policy or strategy are blind hero worshippers. Works the other way, too. Allegations that critics are ill-disguised PUMAs for example.

    Much as we castigate the media for drifting away from factual reporting to analysis and opining, we are quite fond of it ourselves.
