  •  Obama's definitely learned from Clinton's mistakes (2+ / 0-)

and probably, in the first year of his first term, perhaps overcorrected a little.

But, so long as Obama leaves office with the economy on a strong note, my gut feeling is that history will treat Obama somewhat kinder than it will Clinton.  Obama picked himself and dusted himself off pretty quickly whereas with Clinton I feel like we're still paying for a couple of his mistakes.  I don't want to call them overreaches because he definitely had good policy goals, but... maybe a good example might be like those Looney Tunes cartoons, when a character walks off a cliff, looks down, and then realizes that there's no ground at his feet.  Clinton did that a few time - walked out there before checking to see if there was still ground :).

Not to downplay his successes at all, I still believe that his presidency was quite successful, on balance.  But Clinton's failures stung, be it setting us 20 years back on universal healthcare or making us waste nearly four years because he couldn't keep his damn pants zipped.
