also voted for it tonight - her last vote as a House member.

Cracks me up to see that Paul Ryan voted for it too, while Eric Cantor voted nay.

will probably line up more like a vote for the Speaker than a vote on economic issues.  Just a guess.  Haven't seen the roll call yet.  But in the end it looked like a political vote, party politics, to me.  It was a safe vote for all Republicans.  Bush tax cuts had expired so it was technically a vote for tax cuts.  They are safe in their 2014 campaigns now.  Can't run ads against them saying they voted for a tax increase because they didn't.

      •  Ahem: Proposed Script (0+ / 0-)

"My lily-livered sellout of an opponent voted to RAISE taxes on the job-creating capitalists that make America great. He voted to take away the fruits of executive labor by RAISING the capital gains tax, RAISING the dividend rate.
This man, who CLAIMS to be in favor of "family values" voted to RAISE the death tax on his future widow and children. In the same way he attacked the family farm and the Main Street small businessman here in our beloved town of Dump Stump by voting to RAISE this same DEATH TAX."

... all complete rot, of course, but a dozen speeches like that with enough ad dollars, and you could beat John Boehner in a primary with a horde of screaming Tea Party fanatics. They'll buy every word....

        Shalom.
