  •  yeah, the nascar stuff is just silly (1+ / 0-)

but it is jobs and localities subsidize other sports/entertainment all the time with facilities.  that's silly, too, of course, but when in rome...hahaha

I seriously doubt the combined tax breaks for NASCAR billionaires, tax subsidies to NASCAR from local governments and federal subsidies like this are anywhere near cost efficient for the jobs they create.  We're likely paying twice as much to create a few jobs than those jobs create in payroll and tax revenue.

Just a wild guess, but we're probably paying something in the neighborhood of $100 grand in tax money for each new job that pays some poor unemployed person $15,000 or less per year.

The federal government would be much better off to create these kinds of jobs themselves - put the workers on the federal payroll and cut out the billionaire middlemen.  They're bilking our government into bankruptcy.

Democratic Leaders must be very clear they stand with the working class of our country. Democrats must hold the line in demanding that deficit reduction is done fairly -- not on the backs of the elderly, the sick, children and the poor.

if i had my druthers, not one red cent of tax money would go to any sport event anywhere, save for the olympics, i guess.

and while i agree that government hiring is preferable to this third degree of stimulus stuff.  but there are only so many roads and bridges to repair.  there are only so many things a government can hire its people to do.

that said, avoiding the sequester just saved a bunch of agencies' asses, like NIH. research is jobs.
