    Antagonists cannot win. They are wedded to failure. Failure is their familiar. It is the only condition they know. That's because failure is a constant. Failure is consistent and persistent. Failure goes on and on and serves as a prompt to more action. Success, on the other hand, is terminal. After a win, there is nothing to be done, but something else. That is, success is a predicate for change; failure is the predicate for consistency.

    In a way, we can say that Willard Romney was bound to fail in his quest for the presidency.

    To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive.

    Arrival is terminal and the terminus never feels as good as the travel. Ditto for giving, as opposed to receiving.

      Even here, arguing strongly for positions we may never fully win.  If they weren't argued for fiercely we would lose everything in negotiations.
