What is the scope of the NCAA's authority? Can they appropriate taxpayer money from one state and distribute it to others? That sounds like a governmental function. From a purely objective standpoint, it's going to be fascinating and some questions might be answered.  Don't like corbett or what PSU's administrators did at all, but it still will be interesting to follow.

In 2010, Penn State football had $70M in revenue/$50M profit.

As a Big 10 school since the early 1990s, Penn State has benefited from the Big 10's revenue sharing (such as Big 10 channel income, bowl winnings, etc) so some of that money came from out-of-state.   So how can the $60M in ill-gotten gains that the NCAA is trying to claw back be soley (sic) PA tax dollars?

Besides, I thought that the big money college football programs were all into we're self-financed, don't take tax payer money (or at least not much...).

in how the court will rule. I'm sure that's something the PSU lawyers will argue.  How the arguments develop and how the court responds will be very interesting.  It could define the scope of the NCAA's responsibilities should the court go that far.  Like I say, incredibly interesting case for any collegiate sports fan. The NCAA has a lot of power over these schools and student athletes and this could illuminate some of the actions that go on, some of which aren't right.
