  •  Yes. FDR always said "Tax the middle class at 95%" (4+ / 0-)

It is so purely anti-Democratic to support lower tax rates on wage-earners. It's a form of government stimulus spending. And we all know government stimulus programs are GOP Thangs.

No, we are Democrats, and Democrats love government austerity! AUSTERITY FOR THE MASSES! Fill your throuats with this joyous chant!

    •  what would have stopped a new bill from (4+ / 0-)

      being written?

or the admin from finding funding for UI from somewhere else? (like say, military overspending....)

The voters said to only keep the lower taxes for those under $250k. Our supposed representatives overrode our will.

Nothing is permanent. New bills can always be passed to change what is currently law. Letting the Repubs take the fall over their own created cliff would have created a hell of lot of pressure for them to listen to what the voters wanted.

The arbitrary number 250,000 was negotiated to the equally arbitrary number $400,000. That's a tiny concession and far far far less than the GOP conceded from their opening position. That's called a Major Win in the world of negotiation?

Have you even heard of the concept of negotiations before? Are you aware that the American Constitution actually and meaningfully divided power in this country? That "division of power" is a reality, not just an empty catch-phrase? Because it seems like you do not know any of these things.. Nothing happens in DC without negotiation.

Because I sure as hell haven't seen anyone on DK advocating 95% taxes on the middle class.

That's a huge straw man you're attacking there.   I hope you're up to beating it...
