  •  That looks good for our side (5+ / 0-)

but is mistakenly labels the deal as being final, when all it does is delay the cuts for a couple months, so it is most certainly not the final deal.

...worried about.  This deal taken in isolation is not great but not horrid.  What is bad about it some loss of levarage and the kicking the cuts part down the road to a time where the Republicans have more power.

I think Obama overestimates the willingness of the Republicans to legislate or maybe I mean he underestimates the willingness of republicans to default on our debt.  Or at least enough to not be able to consider the republican house as an honest barganing partner.

be happy for us to default.  It isn't as if we would actually pay off those debts, we're required to under the constitution.  What would happen is that there would be massive cuts and they would put SS and medicare on the table.  Also, the rates would go up on our debt so the bankers would make more money.  In fact, I wonder how much bankers made the last time the debt ceiling nonsense came around.

Of course, they'd never be prosecuted even if we knew what they were doing.  To big to fail apparently means to big to punish effectively.

    •  It is amazing no matter how you look at it. (5+ / 0-)

That graph explains in part why the right-wing is apoplectic today.

Look at what happened.  Biden got McConnell to agree to Boehner's Plan B minus a couple smaller items.  And then they found a way to get it thru the House while Cantor was trying to kneecap Boehner.

I believe this is why Boehner swore at Biden.

And remember, the new House GOP majority is much narrower than the one that just adjourned.  Didn't the Dems pick up a dozen House seats in November ?

I haven't heard many people mention that little detail when talking about upcoming negotiations.  The House GOP majority margin went from 50 yesterday to 33 today plus they royally pissed off their own people all over the place from tea partiers to the NY/NJ Republican delegation.

      •  Whoops - swore at Reid not Biden (4+ / 0-)

Although I have a feeling Boehner has been swearing at lamps and walls too (mebbe even floors) the past couple days.

until they get mad at something then they know exactly what is happening.  We need to stop taking cues from Red State as to whether we're on the right path.  These people are psychotic or idiots, or psychotic idiots, and they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

        •  It's not hard to comprehend (0+ / 0-)

A bunch of 'em voted for a major tax increase for the first time in 20 years.  You don't have to be Einstein to know when you've been semi-rolled.

Didn't many of the "nay" votes come from a combo of remaining teabaggers and blue dog Dems?

Socialist Senator Sanders voted "aye" and so did almost all of the progressives in Congress.

Again, take a look at that WaPo chart.

          •  The WaPo chart is wrong (0+ / 0-)

in that this is not the final deal.  The cuts will happen in 60 days, this was just the first part of the deal.  The GOP base may have taken a hit, but this is far from over.

            •  Still kind of disagree with you on this (0+ / 0-)

The deal  that passed yesterday is FINAL.  It's done.  There may be other things coming and no doubt there will be huge battles but a tax increase in the neighborhood of TWO THIRDS OF A TRILLION DOLLARS is in the bag - over - finito.
