  •  Can Women "Have it All?" (5+ / 0-)

Pause for a moment to consider how often reputable news sources like, for example, The New York Times or Time Magazine, feature op-eds or articles about the supposed evils wrought by feminism, how it duped women out of their biological birthright for pointless careerism, how it fostered achievement complexes in women trying in vain to "have it all," how it pits mothers against mothers, single women against married women, young against old, fat against thin, home births against c-sections, and on an on.

Perhaps we can also say that feminism didn't go far enough because, clearly, rape apologists are still the norm, whether in a small town worshipful of their high school football team or on a national stage where political figures argue that some women "rape easy," that there is some narrow male-defined thing called "legitimate rape," and that your rape baby is a loving-male-God's gift to you.

Or, hey, wait a second... maybe this incident is actually feminism's fault!  After all, men have been so thoroughly emasculated in this society that they have steeped themselves in fantasies of male violence (video games, militarism) and some therefore have no choice but assert their manhood via gang rape or executing 20 first graders.  What can you expect when you've denied men their nature, their birthright, their place at the head of the table?

I anxiously await the day when instead of debating feminism we confront how as a culture we socialize boys and how we define manhood.

I can just see the NYT headline now: "Toxic Masculinity? Our New Epidemic"

Worry not; I'm not holding my breath.
