the only evidence I've seen that any Republicans want this.  Roll call says it, so I'll go along with it.  But chained CPI comes from Democrats.  As a later Rollcall article points out:

“Report that #GOP insisting on changes to social security as part of #fiscalcliff false,” Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida posted on Twitter. “BTW those changes are supported by @barackobama.”

In fact, as late as last Friday, Jared Bernstein was on MSNBC telling us why he supported the chained CPI changes.

The same Rollcall article points out:

The chained CPI has a long history that has been embraced at least in some form by some liberal economists as well as conservative ones as a way to slowly trim Social Security and other benefits to make them more affordable and to more accurately portray rising costs.

So I'll grant you the point on Boehner, while still asserting that this isn't a Republican idea nor one with strong support amongst Republicans.  You did notice that Boehner did not include it in Plan B, I hope.

There's not strong support among Democrats either.
        •  Well, I could point to the title of this diary. (0+ / 0-)

Of course, you could use the no true scotsman argument and try to say that Ed Rendell is no true Democrat.

Everytime I have heard this proposal actually DEFENDED out loud in English, it was either by a Democrat or by Alan Simpson -- who, by the way, is too centrist for the rest of the Republican Party.
