... was probably deranged in the first place.  The snake was just visible proof of his cold-blooded personality.

    •  HEY!!!!!!!!! I've been keeping snakes for decades (4+ / 0-)

I used to do educational shows for school classes, Scout troops, and such.

Snakes get a bad rap that they don't deserve.

      •  That may be true of the non-venomous varieties (1+ / 0-)

But they scared me spitless when I was a kid on several occasions, starting when I was about five and one juvenile snake did figure eights across my bare feet when my brother and I were playing with tadpoles in the ditch....

... and I've never been able to conquer my fear of the darn things.  I'm soon going to be 67, so I won't be getting over this fear any time soon.

Weeding in the garden (kids' job).  They seemed to search me out.  Weeding Mom's rock/flower garden..., they waited for me and scared me.

Serious fear of snakes here.  Can't even watch them on TV shows or movies.  Gives me nightmares.

        •  You're afraid of snakes so people (0+ / 0-)

Who keep them as pets have cold-blooded personalties?

          Okaaaay....

Many of our friends do. Snakes are cool. So are iguanas and other reptiles.  They're not for everyone. But then again, neither are cats.

So if you get hit by a bus tonight, would you be satisfied with how you spent today, your last day on earth? Live like tomorrow is never guaranteed, because it's not. -- Me.

        •  I've kept venomous too (0+ / 0-)

They're not even remotely as aggressive or bad-ass as most people think they are.  If you don't bother them, they won't bother you. They don't crawl around just looking for humans to bite.  But if you mess with them, they will defend themselves the only way they can.

Horses kill more people per year in the US than snakes do.
