  •  Even if the 7% isn't a Predictive Calculation, we (5+ / 0-)

have one scarier statistic: we know how today's party and today's Administration have fared in the most recent midterm.

Couple that with the longterm 2nd midterm statistics and it's obvious we can't afford to merely back the party. We'd be better be doing as much of their campaigning job for them as possible.

I don't have OFA's phone list. I also have relatives in Ohio and I backed my Union relatives and friends with donations and phone calls from 1500 miles away. I would joyfully fight for any kind of midterm gains even if we can't win the Speakership.

If the Democratic Leadership won't fight back, why can't we? Many of us at Kos have stayed plugged in to the struggles in  Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. And along with Occupy and the work they are doing on home owner debt and Wall St, it seems we have a national movement to build on that isn't just limited to OFA and the Democratic Party's elites .

And if we are fucked until 2022, we may be fucked when we get there and beyond, if we don't fight back all the way.

    •  Clinton lost big in 1994, won in 1998 (1+ / 0-)

Hate to keep going back to Clinton in the comments here, but none of this is really unprecedented.

Clinton lost 54 House seats in 1994, gained 5 in 1998.

Obama lost 63 House seats in 2010, and given the catastrophic death spiral the GOP is in right now I'm positive we can do better than 5 in 2014 if we're smart and play our cards right, even with the structural disadvantages we face right now.
