    I agree with your premise, the dynamic has changed. More people know that they have gay friends and family, which makes it harder to be anti-gay.

    When I was a kid in the early 70s my liberal parents would laugh at gay jokes, enough to make flouncing about in the stereotypical manner something my brother and I could do to get humorous approval from them. It wasn't even on the radar as an equal rights issue, though both of them were fervently anti-racism/sexism types.

    We've come a long way, baby. That ship has sailed and the gnashing of teeth is receding to an ever-smaller corner of our culture.
