  •  I don't know. The military does it. You can (5+ / 0-)

damn well be sure that if my issued firearms were lost or stolen, I would get court-martialed. No one gave a shit about my baseball bat.

I totally understood why and always had accountability--so did everyone else.

You want the responsibility of owning firearms, accept the responsibility for owning firearms.

    •  I would say that there is a significant (9+ / 0-)

difference between being in the military and being a civilian.   Therefore different standards.

You will not accept any responsibility or accountability whatsoever.

          my awesomeness it is wondrous.

Actually what I am saying that a member of the military is property of the US government, just like the firearms he or she are issued. As property, the government can do pretty much whatever it wants with them, which includes a very regimented process for signing in and out and securing ammo, weapons, vehicles, commo gear, chow...

But since I am no longer the property of Uncle Sam I will not act or be treated as such. You say the military does it and you are correct but they do it to people and things they own. I find the idea of treating civilians that way distasteful.

          •  I find reading about 20 small children and their (0+ / 0-)

            teachers being massacred distasteful.

Last night 409 people had been killed since Shady Hook. I'm sure the number is higher by now. But you just revel in your"freedom".
