    surprised to learn from Robert Reich, yesterday that about 1/3 of our post-Bush deficit spike, after Clinton's surpluses was cause by excess tax cuts equal to 2% of GDP, about a 1/3 from a near doubling of 'total military spending" (Don't just look at plot of "base defense spending" but the $500 billion/year extra in Total military" which includes intelligence, veterans pensions, (which I support), and foreign aid, and the decreased tax revenue and increase safety net spending (including unemployment) due to the economic Great Recession.

    So, if we are serious about deficit reductions, our primary focus must be  to replace missing tax revenue, restore defense spending to previous ratios, and stimulate jobs and the economy to store tax revenues, and reduce safety net spending.
