  •  It would be nice, (11+ / 0-)

if instead of expending huge sums of time, energy, and money on making the GOP become something that they'll never become, to simply drive them from the chamber altogether.  Let it begin today.

I count even the single grain of sand to be a higher life-form than the likes of Sarah Palin and her odious ilk.

All we have to do is let them open their collective mouthes.  However, if you insist on doing something, like in Missouri, find the most radical candidate in any given GOP primary, and do your best to get that person the nomination.  They will be so overcome with power that they will make some non-sensical utterances as did the bozos from Missouri, and Indiana.  Thus, the Democrat is a shoe in.

There is no hell on earth appropriate enough for those who would promote the killing of another person, in the name of a god.

      •  Break their political-support feedback loop. (5+ / 0-)

No matter how stupid "teh stoopid," they've gerrymandered themselves into long-term political relevancy.  We need to take one state that would experience an elemental shift in its political structure through fair district-drawing --- and make fairly-drawn districts in that state a permanent reality.  The tide does not turn by nominating an insane person; it turns by slaying the jabberwocky of the gerrymander.

Strip the Republican of his gerrymander, and you force him to face the cannons of our wrath with nothing but a short stick.

Proponents of gun violence own guns. Opponents of gun violence do not own guns. What part of this do you not understand?

      •  That won't work in some districts. (2+ / 0-)

How could I find someone more crazy that Steve King to run in a primary against him? He won a four-way primary in 2002 against more reasonable candidates. Now we're stuck with him.

there used to be 100 swing districts, now there are only 35.   We have to stop gerrymandering or we are screwed.

I really think that's one of the most valuable lessons to learn from last year's election. I mean, look at the Indiana Senate race, where the insane-o Republican was all set to win, waaaay ahead ... until he opened his mouth about rape. The whole country responded, he was humiliated, and all of a sudden, his numbers plummeted and he lost. Bad.

And while there were a lot of bad bills passed around the country with regard to reproductive rights, it wasn't as bad as 2011, and I have to believe that the way we organized around the country to publicly shame and mock and humiliate these monsters and their draconian bills—that really was effective in a lot of cases.

So I think even in red states and red districts, we can have victories. I take a lot of encouragement from last year.
