    so long as Boehner is there, it's a non starter. People don't like cantor, but even there, they'll vote for another R before any D.

      Parties can and do split, and if Boehner takes them over the cliff into default -- or even credibly threatens to do it -- I could foresee a GOP split.

          More to the point would be the Tea Party going the way of it's 19th Century equivalent, the Know Nothings who, ironically, were a splinter group formed mainly by dissatisfied Whigs.

          Suffice it to say neither party presently polls very strongly.

          Don't ask how or why I know all that.
