  •  Losing weight... (11+ / 0-)

I've never been extremely overweight like some people in my family.  I have about an extra 20-25# that I'd like to lose right now. (That's after losing 20# last year.)

At 27 years old, my brother weighed 325#.  Over the course of a year, he was able to lose 105#.  It was a remarkable transition.  He's gained a little back, but not much.

The biggest thing for both of us was changing our relationship with food. You get fit in the gym, but you get lean in kitchen. My brother lost all that weight, just by changing his eating habits. There were occasional workouts on the stationary bike, but nothing focused.

You'll notice I didn't say "diet".  Diet is a four-letter word that sets you up for failure because it's a temporary restriction on what you can eat. Changing your eating habits and eating more fresh vegetables and fruit is a much better approach. Try new things! (I had fennel for the first time the other day and it's pretty good!)

Here's hoping we can lose that stubborn weight this year! (But it will be in the kitchen, not the gym.)
