  •  Your chickadee picture is awesome. Love the (6+ / 0-)

totally spread tail and wings and the light coming through the feathers. Very cool. It also reminded me something. We live exactly on the boundary that separates Carolina's from Black caps. After all this time I am never sure which one I'm looking at. The bird guides talk about little variations in plumage but those have proved useless to me. I see the same characteristics in all of them. They also talk about the difference in their songs but I have never been able to pick up on that either. I guess it's my tin ear. But there is a difference in their size, with the Black Capped being just a bit longer than the Carolina, about a half an inch. I can tell the difference between the two only when I see them both at the same time as in this picture. I wonder if anyone else lives on the border and if they have any better luck at telling them apart. Downy's and Hairy's are a piece of cake compared to these two. It doesn't help that they are both grab and run rascals either.
    Looking forward to your diary!
