necessarily (that's a whole different subject I'm unclear on), but crows are here year round, at work, at the malls, in all the residential neighborhoods. 30 years ago, there were very few crows in the southern and central parts of the county, and not all that many in the northern parts. In the last 20 years, and especially the last 10, there has been an apparent population explosion. They are very resourceful birds, and do well around human habitats.

    •  OK -- the mall HERE is not urban. (3+ / 0-)

But they get bombarded by crows every year.

I live right downtown.  Last year...crows.  Nothin' but crows.  Put a steak bone out for a homeless cat...the crows took over.  I won't make that mistake again.

I don't hate the corvids.  But I wish they'd go eat corn in the farmers' fields and leave our city birds alone.

I'm concerned about the crows crowding out other species. Fortunately, there is still a fair amount of diversity. It sounds like the situation here is not quite as out of control as where you are.

My area is kind of on an edge between lower density suburbs and a middle density urban area, but our city is so large and sprawling, it's hard to define where the boundary between urban and suburban is. I'm not downtown, but I guess since I live in an apartment complex with maybe 400 residents, near a major street and freeway, it's more urban than suburban.
