I honestly don't remember what my first "gay" book was. I've read so many of them, it's hard to remember when.

Like you, most of those titles are unfamiliar to me, and I agree it's far-reaching. Bastard out of Carolina is one of my favorite books, but I have never considered a gay-themed book. I can see why they included it but I would not have.

I read Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit when I was young, but I was already out of the closet when I read that one. It's a good Sunday read- short and gripping enough that it's an old standby for a lazy day.

Of course, what book-loving lesbian has not read The Well of Loneliness? While I can't recall what my first book about being gay was, this is the first one that really stuck with me, and does to this day.

I'm surprised that Aimee and Jaguar is not on this list. (Or is it and I'm just not seeing it?) I don't know how a list of this sort could not include that book.

    P.S. I am not a crackpot.
