  •  Hamas must change too (4+ / 0-)

"Palestinians subjected to a military system of justice in the Occupied Territories, and wholly under Israel's control, have no democratic say in the process that binds them."

When the Palestinians in Gaza did have an election, they voted for Hamas -- an organization that is devoted to the destruction of Israel. Israel does a lot of wrong and hurtful things, but there can't be a two-state solution as long as Hamas is in power and maintains its "death to Israel" philosophy.

    •  Minor correction (3+ / 0-)

Hamas won a plurality victory with 45% of the vote in 2006,   It seized power in Gaza with an illegal coup in 2007. So it isn't exactly correct to say that Palestinians "voted for Hamas". (It is true that Hamas led the voting in most of Gaza.) The problem is that since Israel had withdrawn from Gaza it had no ability to right things there -- a mistake it will  not repeat --  and the Mubarak regime had no desire to right things. So Palestinians in Gaza are suffering under a bunch of thuggish homophobic misogynistic theocratic terrorists and there is no end in sight to their rule.

even in America a party can win the majority of seats on election day without winning the majority of the votes. So in 2006, Hamas won 76 of 132 parliamentary seats giving them the right to form the next cabinet. It's interesting how the American media called the take over of Gaza by the side that won the most votes in all of Palestine following that election a "coup."

Hamas must be making some humanitarian progress. In the last two major arm conflicts they did not kill a single Israeli minor. On the other hand the IDF killed nearly 400 Palestinian children. This data is available on the B'Tselem site--the Israeli Human Rights group.

Sadly the american media seems to have missed these important facts. Perhaps the demonizing of thugs in the Mideast should not be restricted to Hamas

War is costly. Peace is priceless!

          Not for lack of trying.

They did heartily celebrate the bombing of a bus in Tel Aviv... From Al-Aqsa TV:

These are scenes of the casualties. God willing, we will soon see black body bags. I pray to God the exalted we will see body bags in a short while. These are scenes of the Zionist casualties so far. Right now in these moments, the mosques in the Gaza Strip, their minarets are loudly sounding cries of “Allahu Akbar” and cries of joy, and the residents of the Gaza Strip are bowing down to Allah for this offering. The morale of the Gaza residents is in the sky right now, and is rising just as the rockets of the resistance.
Yep... that is some seriously "humanitarian" commentary.
