I dunno about doing away with HRs. Maybe, yeah.....I'd be amenable to a rule that says you can't HR in a diary unless you've commented in it at least once.

A recent set of incidents has led me to ask the help desk for a clear definition of stalking. There is no way HRs should appear on a comment hours after the fact, from users that were not in the thread, didn't rec any other comments in that thread, the tip jar, or the diary itself.

    You know who you are.

Setting honey pots and watching who donuts them and when.  I'm not bugged by the HRs, I could care less than the least you can imagine.

But I am interested in the psychology of bullying behavior, and you see so much of it on here.  I'm studying them.

people just click on the hidden comments link and pile on.

I like the tip feature though.

are perhaps pointless, but hardly stalking.

There is no way HRs should appear on a comment hours after the fact, from users that were not in the thread, didn't rec any other comments in that thread, the tip jar, or the diary itself.
And people cruising the hiddens is exactly the way in which that can happen.  Or simply people who don't immediately read a given diary, and only get around to it hours later, and don't bother to tip anything, but see an HR'd comment, so they open it to see why it was HR'd, then feel it really does deserve a dogpile, and toss theirs in anyway.

I don't know who HR'd k9, but what he's describing probably isn't even uncommon, much less something you could say 'there is no way...' about.

        •  I sometimes look at the hiddens (0+ / 0-)

If there is a particularly egregious comment, I might register my disapproval, but I rarely HR "via" the hiddens.

Last night I was able to have an interesting and informative discussion with a user. That would not have happened had I not looked at the hidden comments.

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.
