    And conservatism lends itself to Republicanism. But when Democrats find a way to break the mold, they succeed. Not unlike North Dakota, which was very Republican downballot but still, until 2010, had two Democratic Senators and a Democratic representative for as long as I'd been alive.

    There's also my other point where Alaska, as a net importer of federal funds, tends to like their incumbents. And Begich has done nothing to rock the boat.

      I don't think there's any basis for asking AK is not a Republican state. It may be more conservative than Republican, in any of several meanings of the word. All I'm asking for is greater clarity of description.

        Alaska is more a conservative state than it is a dyed-in-the-wool Republican state.
