  •  The shout (3+ / 0-)

has become little more than a whisper though. I suspect that the pro gunners are pretty happy with the current state of affairs.

    •  Where are you? (3+ / 0-)

I have been hearing/reading multiple references daily here in NYC. It's possible that the outcry is being muffled in more pro-gun areas, but everyone is still talking about it here. And once Biden's committee make their recommendations, we'll b hearing about it everywhere again.

Or are you referring to conversation on DailyKos only? Because most (not all!) of the pro-gun people here really don't want to talk about it.

      •  As far as the national conversation is concerned (1+ / 0-)

It has died down quite a bit from even just before Christmas. The fiscal water slide sucked all the oxygen out of the room for national news. As time goes on, it gets harder to keep people interested in a story that doesnt really have any new developments. We won't have the drama of a trial to drive the debate, the shooter is dead. Biden's task force recommendations should put some focus back on it, but the Republicans are going to stonewall everything unless it really becomes politically untenable.

        •  There have been plenty of new (3+ / 0-)

          developments reported here locally.

The kids went back to their "new" school last week. Tomorrow, Gaby Giffords and Mark Kelly will be in Newtown to discuss the situation. And just this morning, Mayor Bloomberg responded to some jerk who thought it would be a great idea to put armed retired NYC cops in our public schools as guards.

It is distressing to hear that people outside the area have moved on. All I can say is, try to do your part to keep the issue fresh.

was a footnote on the nightly news that the kids were going on a tour of their new school and trying to get back into the routine of class at the end of the 6 o'clock news.

            •  Especially distressing (0+ / 0-)

since I'm assuming you're in DC, based on your handle. If there's anyplace where it needs to be kept front and center, it's there. Let's see what happens after Giffords' visit.

I never would have wished it on her (or anyone else, for that matter), but she could end up being this generation's Jim Brady. How effed up is it that we need one per generation?
