    and also provided for a central gathering point for Occupy to reach the people.  In NYC, thousands of people came by Zucotti Park every day.  Even in my small local occupation, the camp provided a point at which the public could come and speak with the occupiers and where Occupy held public meetings on various critical issues of broad public interest.

    IMHO, the tents and camps were also symbolic of the fact that public spaces were owned by all the people and should be used for public purposes.  I think of them as the public soapboxes.
