  •  I will ask at the metal scrap yard and the police (7+ / 0-)

    stations right around the corner.
I have only seen guns being cut up, chopped, sawed, and shredded when that gets publicized for tv.
That just seems too stupid for words, I have a hard time believing the police would be so dumb about it.

I would believe that some guns get carried back out on the street as drop guns and as back door sales by the few dirty cops, but I wouldn't bet it was a large percentage of guns sold either.

Authorities were able to trace 54 of those guns to their original point of sale. Thirty percent were from Indiana, 26 percent from Illinois and 6 percent from Kentucky, the analysis found. Most of the Indiana guns were bought in the northwest part of the state.

-7.62; -5.95 The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite insane.~Tesla

if this is an NRA bill it's the NRA members not the gun mfgs if guns are a commodity. It was 'urged' passed by the NRA.
Price wise gives lower priced options instead of new guns with less money going to mfg.

In the displays whenever there's a drug arrest here the guns displayed are at least half older guns likely stolen in burglaries and swapped for drugs.

That these guns are put back on the market thru licensed dealers means they are less likely to be reused in a crime it would seem. Putting them in an iffy scrap stream doesn't sound terrific. I am slightly more concerned with the phrase 'either sold or retained for law enforcement use.'
