    All sarcasm aside, yeah, pretty stupid and intentionally inflammatory title. Then again, I suppose that was the point.

      I am a teacher in a high school whose student body is about 70% African American. In reading historical documents (including the speeches of civil rights leaders), students encounter the word "negro" on a fairly regular basis. They obviously understand the difference between "negro" and the other N-word, but it's still heavily freighted and seems to be almost universally despised. If I were to use the word in a lecture or discussion--outside of directly quoting a specific source--my students and their parents (and my colleagues and administration, for that matter) would likely be upset. As far as I can tell, the term hasn't been affirmatively resignified, at least not in any widespread way, and I would not use it.
