    the child's own good. I can't imagine how much rage this caused in children subjected to unspeakable abuse and then expected to not only accept but approve it.
    I think Miller was also the one to point out that societies which routinely abuse children "for their own good" also tend to view God as an abusive parent, punishing humans for their own good. Sound familiar?
    Miller's research goes a long way, in my opinion, toward explaining the rantings featured on Kos's weekly Hate-a-palooza.

      on a surrogate that is the most important thing Alice Miller described in my opinion.  Not being able to be angry at the source of the abuse (because they are people we have to rely on) can mean having a rage that is never quenched because no matter how much one exercises it against a surrogate it doesn't abate.  Doesn't that sound familiar?  I wonder if we examined the childhoods of many of the angry right wing we would find similar reasons for their reactions.
