I do realize you're a lawyer and I'm not, :), but it sounds to me like the writers of that expect the church to not let the person keep it because it is against the law.

A plain reading of the law says that it is a misdemeanor not to declare your weapon and follow the instructions given by the property owner, and that an exemption to the law exists if you do so. If the property owner says you can keep the weapon, you are following the law.

I expect that the writers of the law expected the church not to allow the person to keep their weapons because weapons brandishing and churches traditionally have been at odds.

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves. - William Pitt
