  •  KSAN (3+ / 0-)

I used to listen to KSAN in 1967. They would play classical music all day and then rock after midnight. Here's one they played a lot.

    •  Are you thinking of KMPX? because once Tom (0+ / 0-)

Donahue took over KSAN, it was rock radio 24/7.

It was KSAN. I don't remember the DJ, but he would say the call letters , "this is KSaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, Saaaaaaaaaaaand francisco". He would drag it out for a loooong time and say the francisco really fast. I was living in a commune and on Friday nites we would all drop acid, watch Star Trek and listen to KSAN all night after the classical stuff. Then about 6am they went back to classical.I also remember Tom and Rachael Donahue from KMPX and KMET. They were the ones who created underground radio as far as I'm concerned.

It was actually 1968 and it was probably during the transition. Right before they went to 24/7 rock. I imagine the DJ  was jumging the gun by a few weeks.
