  •  Isn't a lot of that due to the massive amount (0+ / 0-)

    of regulation?

Heck, things are getting bad enough where we should seriously considering having the Government build and operate nuclear reactors...

    •  massive regulation? surely you jest (2+ / 0-)

I note that the only successful nuke programs have been government-run, where costs don't matter.

      •  Nuclear plants (0+ / 0-)

Aren't allowed to externalize all their costs like coal plants are... if coal operators had to pay for the massive amounts of illness and climate related destruction caused...

        •  of course they do (3+ / 0-)

The electric companies don't pay for all the massive damage done by the uranium mining that supplies them.  Nor do they pay the massive costs for constructing someplace to put all their radwaste (oh, by the way, there IS no place to put it---which is why the companies store their radwaste on site in unprotected pools).  And the nuclear industry isn't even liable for the costs of an accident---the government is nice enough to relieve them of most of their responsibility.

If the electric companies had to pay all the REAL costs of nuclear energy, they'd have run away from nukes even faster than they already did.
