    Even the most right-wing religious nut, one who hates the idea of giving handouts (per Christ's instructions in Matthew 25) should be able to understand we'd be a stronger nation, and much more advanced in our relations with the whole world, if we just fed the mass of people instead of trying to kill some of them at 20 times the cost.

    And thank you for the link. I know there was also a UN study, somewhere between 1998-2001, which had it that a ten-year program spending half-a-trillion, or so, could be done to not only feed the hungry, but set up circumstances so at the end of the program they'd have the infrastructure to feed themselves. I think it also included potable water (a major issue in itself). But I've never been able to find that link again.
