    of disruption.

    But hundreds of small local banks would have started lending to plumbing contractors and burger joints in their own towns, with money that used to be loaned out for commodity speculation.

    I firmly believe we'd have had the inverse of what actually happened.  GDP would have contracted while generally prosperity would have risen.
