  •  WHY this request for financial assistance is A+++ (8+ / 0-)

These are what I believe are the criteria for giving money to someone in need:

    1. the Recipient [or his/her family] has been an active member of Daily Kos for some time
Richard was a long-time member who contributed a great many diaries
    2. the issue is a one-time problem not likely to re-occur
The family needs to pay rent immediately and will be able to again as soon as their income is re-established
    3. the money requested is appropriate to the need and is less than $5,000.00
Note to Mentatmark: Find out how much that is - it's the only thing this request is missing and edit your diary to include that detail
    4. the issue can be verified by a local Kossack with an eyes-on visit
"COwoman is going to go to the family's house to verify . . ." Edit the diary to include her report
    5. the money goes directly to a trusted source [I define that as the recipient via direct deposit via PayPal, a special bank account controlled by the recipient or checks {not cash}, Western Union, or money orders]
It would be better to set up a PayPal account immediately in this case to satify the last requirement
    6. As soon as the goal has been reached STOP RAISING MONEY and edit the title of the diary to let kossacks know that.
That's why PayPal is such a useful tool. BTW: Do not count promises to send money or speculate how much  money is in the mail. Count only the dollars actullly in hand.

These are my personal criteria and I'm not saying that everyone needs to follow them. One other note: While I make it a practice to announce how much I'm donating, I've discovered that many people prefer not to and many of those people have been exceedingly generous.

Those who fought the war in Afghanistan won it. Get them out of Afghanistan NOW . . . It's long past time. Those who want to wage the next war in Afghanistan are condemned to lose it.

    •  I went and saw Candy (10+ / 0-)

She is real and is in need of temporary financial aide. She needs to pay her landlord the trailer park rental fee by Friday or she will be out no matter if she pays up or not.

It seems that they do not like them as tenets because they are activists. I saw the notice from her landlord and although Richard had paid the rent for December and she is only a little late, they want them out if they can legally without regard to her circumstances.

Candy was very nice and so very grateful. She offered Richard's death certificate and all the notices before I could even tell her my name. She was so touched she started to well up.

I offered to take her some frozen meals I always have on hand and she started to shake with happiness. I will be dropping off some meals for her and her son tomorrow.

As explained above Paypal is problematic for her as she has no access really to a computer and they limit how much you can get at one time no matter how much is in the account. She needs to get the landlord a money order.

      •  This is a great report. Thank you. (7+ / 0-)

Do you have a PayPal Account? You are a trusted Kossack, and sending it to you is a fast, safe way to get the money to her. DO NOT use your only money in hopes that others will make up the difference.

If you could set up a paypal account that would be so great.

A trusted Kossack on the ground and in personal touch with  Candy is ideal for getting help to them quickly.

Thank you so much for going over there.

Please let us know what you decide to do or can do.

I have not heard back from Betty (of Rocky Mt Peace and justice center) and anyway she is in Boulder, but I could try and call again if you are unable to set up an account.

        Please let us know.

      •  Sounds like they might need legal help? (1+ / 0-)

Might there be a local agency that would intercede on any apparently descriminatory housing issues --- especially in light of the tenant's disability?

Is there an Independent Living Center nearby?

        The Independence Center

        And/or, Protection and Advocacy agency?

        The Legal Center

Both might help with the landlord issue, or refer to someone who can, and may be good resources for future advice and support on other matters.
