    allow for private ownership of cannons, mounted guns and other military grade weaponry? Seems to me they were referring specifically to long rifles/muskets and pistols...

      generally did not include the sort of weapons considered dishonorable, like stilettos or garrotes.

      Not cannon, and not really tiny pistols you could hide in your boot either.
