    Great to see you.  

    Yeah, and JSTOR made the documents freely downloadable to the public last week.  

    He was on the MIT network, which is deliberately open to anyone on campus, and my understanding is that the JSTOR documents were legally downloadable for anyone who is on the MIT network.  So it wasn't even stealing.  He didn't break into the network either.  

    And when you read the details and sequence of events, it just gets worse.  JSTOR asked the prosecutor to drop the charges.  But she doubled down instead bumped up the charges.

    Plus, the documents, or at least some of them were research papers -- research funded by our tax money in the form of grants.

    But as you point out, the punishment for certain crimes (if he had committed on) is so out of whack compared to other ones.
