Isn't that what the Congresswoman was talking about, or does life start at conception and end at birth?
The rethug philosophy is: once you're born, you're on your on.

"I'm totally pro-choice in the matter of abortion. But of course I'm also so radically pro-life that I think every person from birth onward must have full and affordable access to healthcare." - Gail Collins

    •  Here's a new GOP slogan: (8+ / 0-)
Birth: the beginning of the end.
Fetuses are so much more comforting, because they are all pure potential, a great fantasy fetish for those authoritarians who envision creating a "perfect world".

The problem is that it side steps the issue of the humanity of the fetus.

Isn't that what the Congresswoman was talking about, or does life start at conception and end at birth?
Cold and clinical denial of the humanity of the fetus is what the right to choose abortion is continuously be pounded as murder of a person.

Saying the the fetus is somehow not human or a "person" has been the greatest mistake that the pro-reproduction movement has ever made.  This point of contention will never go away and always steer the moral argument towards the right of the fetus.

It is time to change our argument to the morality if the choice of abortion.  Abortion is a moral choice always for the woman who is unprepared to raise and nurture a child.  We must acknowledge and honor the potential human being and mother with gratitude for making a sacrifice for the sake of the well-being of the living.
In the acknowledgement of the humanity of the fetus, the moral argument shifts from killing to moral culling.
The children for which there is not provision of support and TIME should never be born is a moral position.
The women that choose to breed before having education, skills and even a help partner, should be the ones that are culturally shamed, not those that righteously choose to control their own reproduction by any means.
Seriously, the oceans are dying and the planet is being strip mined.  There are too many people for the planet to support and we are about to come up against the planet's carrying capacity for more humanity.
When women make the culturally moral choice to control their reproduction by any means, the children that will be born will be better off.  Even the government and corporations would realize that human life is not so cheap.  Policies would reflect a true value for human resource.  As a result, all children will have their needs met with supreme social morality.
