  •  Blackburn is a nutcase right wing extremist (6+ / 0-)

She will never change.  The republican Teabaggers will never change.  They will never compromise.  They will never relent in their struggle to ruin sane government functioning in a diverse culture/society.  They are a malignancy in our body politic.  I cannot tell you how repulsive and sickening their actions are to me.  I am a person who served my country honorably - in war.  I am a disabled Vietnam veteran.  I grew up in a country where there were few, if any, Fundamentalist/Evangelical/Right Wing nutcases in power any where in the US (1950's & 1960%'s).  They would have been laughed off the stage - as they should be.  Their power grab here in the US is a tragic development.  Our culture was on its way to a better place with the Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, now repeal of DADT -  and DOMA will soon end.  Yet the regressives  hang onto old, sick and hateful ideas and beliefs (racism, sexism, classism, homophobia,  etc. ) as if they were lifeboats from their sinking ship of hate and bigotry.  This needs to end, somehow.  The US I hoped and worked toward and marched for and voted to make more and more progressive over my lifetime, is being destroyed by the right wing nutcases like Blackburn

    •  That 3% number is bogus (0+ / 0-)

Planned Parenthood, in 2010, performed over 300,000 abortions.

Each of those abortions is somehow made equal to dispensing a pregnancy test, which is beyond ridiculous.

Abortion, in dollars, are a much bigger portion of Planned Parenthood's budget than 3%.

PP can do all the abortions they want, as far as I'm concerned.

But, it is curious that PP would try so hard to fudge the numbers and hide how large a part abortions are in their list of services.

Three percent of patient visits each year are for abortion. 97% are for family planning, annual exams, pap smears, and other services—and even vasectomies.

Yes, an abortion visit is more costly than a pap smear, getting examined for contraception, or a well-woman exam. But even on the basis of revenues received, abortions still account for only 11% of the total. And a good chunk of that 11% is in effect a tax levied by the Marsha Blackburns and Ken Cucunellis (sp?) of the political world who impose procedures and steps unnecessary for a sound abortion that drive up the cost. Another extra cost imposed by the forced birthers is the cost of security, bullet proof windows, extra thick concrete walls, electrically locked doors, security cameras and recording systems, armed security guards, etc., to say nothing of the security steps necessary to protect both staff and physicians from harm both on-ste and off.

And keep in mind, even though those costs are imposed for political reasons, they are paid for with private funds.

The entire burden is unnecessary for good health outcomes.
