    your wealth of aviation knowledge -- bears and planes are about the two most interesting subjects to most Alaskans.

    From this USAF National Museum Fighter Aircraft link, the F-104G is identified as an all-weather version, but like the F014S it was a Military Assistance Program/Consortium built design for international service.

    When I was much younger (and 4th Avenue in Anchorage much wilder), I remember the Sabre Jet Room -- a tawdry bar just near Elmendorf AFB that had an old F-86 Sabre airframe hanging from the side of the building.  In that era -- Alaska was still on the Cold War front lines and it very much felt like it at times.
