  •  I have a friend who about 8 years ago was so (4+ / 0-)

desperate for work she took a temporary job over the Christmas season on the over night shift at the post office sorting mail from Midnight to 8 am.

She had been a manager in a corporation as a male, but lost that job when she started transitions as a transexual which can be a problem finding new work.

But, while there made friends with the Post Office people who like her and explained the inside track on taking the required civil service exams.

So by that March when an rare opening occurred she had the inside track and scored a full time job as a middle manager as a woman where she still works last time I heard.

persistence is the most important thing. It may feel like you're throwing yourself against a brick wall, but eventually you will break through.

Just keep going, one foot in front of the other.l

      •  Yes, somehow find a way to moving forward each (5+ / 0-)

day, or night, and don't hesitate to try some creative "out-of-the-box" strategies now and then.

But, most important I think is to find things you love to do and keep investing a little bit each day in them even if they seem totally implausible at the moment.

If you keep investing in something you love maybe there's a chance you develop news skills that will allow you to create a future for yourself that doesn't even exist yet.

The phase of the field I ended up excelling in at MIT and later in my own company didn't even exist when I graduated from high school.  (In the form I was part of creating later.)
