  •  I am concerned that people like this (9+ / 0-)

are given so much time on TV. Back in the old days, people like Alex Jones would be found screaming at passersby on street corners, not on TV. This goes for other insane people such as Orly Taitz as well.

    •  In the Old Days TV Was Heavily Regulated. (5+ / 0-)

There were only 3-4 broadcast networks and no cable. Ownership concentration was severely limited. Outlets had to prove that they were operating in the public interest at very frequent license renewals, which is why Thom Hartmann who was broadcasting back then has said almost every tv and radio outlet had a news department strictly firewalled from sales. There was also the fairness doctrine and actually it was used to give some of these nuts some occasional access.

With those regulations lifted, broadcasters being corporations with their own private bill of rights freedom to promote their agenda, no longer feel important pressure to serve the interests of the people countering their self interest. The press must in our time be the organ of the rich and their enterprises mostly against the interests of society and the people.

, but they only ever applied to broadcasters on the public airwaves. Cable television is conveyed by a very private cable and none of the public's anything. Those companies don't need broadcast licenses. Never did.

Unless I misremember entirely. It happens.
