at what one more volunteer can do. OK, if you're just one more person at one doorknock, that's not making a big difference. Speaking as a local party chair, one more person who comes to the meeting and regularly volunteers for committees and projects is a big help. Someone who comes up with the ideas and offers to chair the committee and really run with it is absolutely invaluable.

I decided at one point to show up to the local party meetings and volunteer for everything I could. That's how I ended up in charge. It's a lot of responsibility, but I also get a lot to say.

Also keep in mind that while I'm in a blue district with a party that was strong when I got here, it didn't just appear. There are decades of work that got us here. Be patient, and be willing to just do better than you did before.  Be conscious of the value of each individual, and  the multiplier effect of one more active volunteer and one more successful project.

    •  Sound like really good advice. I hope (0+ / 0-)

I'm up to it. I'm a little old lady. ;)

I've made a decision to get involved in party politics, mostly at the precinct level, this year.  In the past I've worked on a series of single issue campaigns, and on individual political campaigns.  I've decided that at this phase in my life involvement in the county party is what I can do to have the most impact.

IOW I think your advice is good.
