  •  Hilda Solis' replacement? (0+ / 0-)

It's nice that Solis completed four years at DOL without any big  scandals or embarassing fuckups. But let's hope for a little more in the second term.

How about Jahred Bernstein as a replacement?

      Sorry, that's Jared Bernstein:

Wasn't aware Bernstein was an advocate of chained CPI, but it is not surprising given that it is the preferred Social Security "cut" of the Obama administration.

But so what? Does that disqualify him for DOL? Is opposition to chained CPI one of your litmus tests for Cabinet rank jobs?

...hinting at any specific criticism and supported Bernstein without providing any specific praise.

One therefore has to wonder what exactly your gripe with Solis is, if, in fact, you have any, and what precisely you think would make Bernstein better than she in the quiet job she has proved herself so capable at for the past four years.

That's why I raised the issue of chained CPI, because it shows that on one matter of importance to working stiffs, Bernstein is definitely not better than Solis.

As for a litmus test, no. The issue is not whether it disqualifies him. The issue is what makes you think he is enough better that your write off Solis with a meh for her tenure.

          •  specific criticism of Solis (0+ / 0-)

My specific criticism of Solis is only that the kind of effective pro-worker advocacy that we all want was marginalized and muted during her tenure. Much of the blame for that can be laid at the feet of the WH, but a higher profile, more activist Secretary might do a better job in the second term.

Bernstein might be a good candidate, because he has the economic chops and media savvy, but there are other candidates as well. I understand from other posts that Jennifer Granholm is looking for a job. I am sure there are many others.
