  •  The NRA has many tentacles and are very (5+ / 0-)

successful at spreading their vile because of that. They have all the lobbyists and bought politicians (even though more than half of the present House has taken money from the NRA, the money is relatively small when compared to the threats they get).  They have several legal branches: some to attack laws they don't like and some to write/pass laws in states they own (like FL for example).  Their PR is disgusting, but also very successful.

So I am not surprised that they are engaging in court stacking, after all stacked courts have already given them victories so it is not strange that they will do more.

Then they came for me - and by that time there was nobody left to speak up.

      The MO seems identical.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.

      •  Very closely linked, see this NYT piece from last (6+ / 0-)

April for an example:  LINK  ALEC is mentioned about a third of the way down as their partner in crime (pun intended).

      •  The NRA wrote Stand Your Ground boilerplate (5+ / 0-)

The NRA is a major funder of ALEC.

Stand Your Ground was written in secret meetings held during ALEC-sponsored "education" events for Republican legislators who are bribed through "scholarships" granted by ALEC. So no real cash passes hands and legislators don't have to report these bribes as would be required by state laws.

And ALEC claims to be a tax-exempt charitable organization because, they claim, their work "substantially" benefits public charity. Not one dime goes to the public, of course.

Stand Your Ground is what made the Sanford Florida police release George Zimmerman after he stalked and murdered 17 yaer old Trayvon Martin because he looked suspicious and dumb-ass Zimmerman said he was scared.

This is only one of the NRA/ALEC nonsense bills already passed into law in nearly 30 states. Another bill prohibits civil suits against these murderers. They went nuts after OJ Simpson was acquitted of murder but lost his fortunes after he lost a civil suit.

        Yeah.

ALEC and the NRA are joined at their tin foil pointly little heads.

And that's good. The more public exposure about the stealth influence of ALEC and state and federal right wing legislatures, the better.

            One picture says it all.

Here's an NRA press release from way back in 2005 when ALEC was about to approve its "model legislation" for Stand Your Ground  aka Castle Doctrine for release to all state legislatures. Same shit, all Republican majority states.

For those interested in learning more about ALEC activities, the Voter Legislative Transparency Project (www.vltp.net) is one of several excellent resources. Among the founders of this project is Bob Sloan, a Daily Kos frequent contributor and all-around go-to guy for all things ALEC.
