    There seem to be only two ideas out there other than the trillion dollar coin idea. They are: (a) Rely on the sanity of House Republicans or (b) Hold a bake sale to fund the US government.

    I think I like the coin idea better.

      It's Congress' responsibility to deal with this.  I think it would be a grave mistake for the President to do an end run around something so fundamental to their duty.  I think if the Republicans decide to destroy the US financial integrity, then they cannot really be stopped.  What the administration needs to be working on is what happens the next day, after the default.  

      I'm still mad about Nixon.

        I think you lost me when you put the words "Congress" and "responsibility" in the same sentence.

        If the coin is legal, why wouldn't that be an option when the only other option is national catastrophe? I agree that it shouldn't come to that, but it has in fact come to that.
