You'll be pleased (?) to know that we picked up our latest hive today, and they've settled in nicely in the hive boxes we placed at the top of our orchard.

As for DSM media blitzes, that is exactly the idea I'm proposing: Identify the range of outlets/people already contacted; select important targets and place them in order; and blitz them one by one with requests, suggestions, and polite demands that they cover the damned story.

But I really think we should collect information before we start trying to direct traffic to different media outlets.  It seems like an obvious and not-very-onerous thing to do.

    •  Exactly right, Smintheus... (none)
... get the effort to direct a coherent (like your laser analogy) stream of effort to strategic points in the media. No jumbled lists and reports of information, it must be organized and easily assimilated. So far, everyone's letter writing has indeed had an effect (see my post above regarding the television report) but to take it to the next level, your plan is headed in the right direction.

If there is some sort of process or structure developed here, maybe we can expand it to be included on the DSM site as well. We get a lot of mail from folks who say they write, and want to do more. (Just thinking out loud again)

      •  Good idea (none)
I was thinking of identifying perhaps two or three targets per day, posting contact info here on Daily Kos, and trying to get allied blogs like Democratic Underground to post the same day by day, or remind readers to check in here to get the daily list.  If your site were to keep updating a targeted list, we probably could double the number of calls and letters that Kossacks alone might generate.

Here's a hypothetical target list, pulled out of the aether.  After about a week, we'd probably have to revisit some intransigent networks, but we could concentrate on regional and local papers where a flood of emails might be more noticeable:

        Day 1: CNN; C-Span; Chicago Sun-Times
Day 2: CBS; NPR; USA Today
Day 3: ABC; NBC; Baltimore Sun
Day 4: C-Span (they don't listen well); Fox, St. Louis Post Dispatch

        •  This could go somewhere indeed... (none)
Day 4: C-Span (they don't listen well); Fox, St. Louis Post Dispatch
          Thanks for the laugh!

I think you are really onto something here... one caveat is to remind, remind, remind people not to cut-and-paste the same letters. When conducting a "mass mailing" like this, I think that is the first thing that loses credibility with the media contacts who field the mail... reading the same letter tens, hundreds, thousands of times. What do you think?

          •  Yes yes yes, yup, yuppers (none)
Everyone will be urged to write their own letter (or make a call).  With dozens or hundreds, though, they won't even need to be long to make the point (the recipients will figure out early on what the DSM is).  And if people are writing letters every day, they can write just one letter and send it out to every target--it will still look personalized.
            •  So what do we need to start? (none)
I admit I am already spending most of my time on the website as it is, but would be more than happy to coordinate with you on this plan. Would you be willing to be the point man here on dKos? Write the diary everyday with "today's targets?"

I should get some sleep, but I do want to see your plan begin...

BTW, look on the Why Care? page of the website, after the table, there is a blurb about the piece you wrote for us with a link to a separate page with your text. What do you think? Any changes you would like to see? I am not sure how to credit you, or would you like to go under the moniker we all use.... "the downingstreetmemo.com team"

              •  Ok, let's do it (none)
I'm sorry this diary got so little attention, but that's the way it goes.  We do need a point person here to write a diary every day identifying targets and providing contact info.  I'm willing to do that, unless somebody else has already undertaken it.  I could email you every day, with suggested targets and text that you could post the following day on downingstreetmemo.com.  I don't know if the editors of DailyKos will help us to keep the diaries here up all morning, but we could ask.

We definitely need to form alliances with other blogs if we want to maximize the numbers.  I will try to contact some of the highest profile bloggers in the next few days to ask for their support.  If you're too busy to help with that, I can understand.  I would in any case welcome suggestions about whom to contact.  My email address is mclark@muhlenberg.edu

Perhaps we could begin this campaign on June 1st, the one month anniversary of DSM's publication.  I imagine that numbers will be small in the first few days until news gets around, so  we can expect to have to revisit some of the initial targets a second time.

I saw your link to my 'path to war' piece.  You've formatted it well.  I did notice, however, that the last item in my list (at the end) of deceptions is not given a separate line (instead, it appears as the first sentence in the final paragraph).  I'll have to think about possible improvements to that text.  I wrote it very rapidly, and there probably are important things I forgot to mention.

There's no need to credit me explicitly for the text, though if you want to that's fine as well.  As the IRS knows full well, my name is Michael Clark.

Btw, we used to live in Berkeley.  Where are you?

I WANT A LASER BEAM DIARY EVERY DAY

IT'S MUCH, MUCH BIGGER THAN DOWNING STREET MINUTES!!

I AM IN THE "BRITISH ISLES" BELIEVE ME THERE ARE HUGE STORIES BEING REPORTED UK, THAT NEVER MAKE IT THROUGH TO US.

FOR EXAMPLE THE MAY 1 TIMES PUBLICATION OF THE DSM HAS STILL NOT GOT THROUGH TO THE MEDIA, NOT EVEN TO DKOS, NOT TO TV, NOT TO NEWSPAPERS.

                  DISINFORMATION. DISINFORMATION. DISINFORMATION.

ORWELL WROTE THE BOOK.  WINSTON SMITH WAS DOING A CUT AND PASTE PHOTOSHOP JOB ON THE NEWS.

THAT IS WHY I HAVE FOUGHT FOR MORE THAN FORTY DAYS (DSM FIRST REPORTED UK ON MARCH 20, 2005) FOR A WORD TO BE INTRODUCED TO THE US.  MINUTES.  BUT YOU KNOW HOW THE RESISTANCE HAS BEEN TO LEARNING TO USE ONE FRIGGIN WORD.

                •  I fixed the line break... (none)
... in the Path to War piece, and did a combo of my credit ideas... let me know what you think.

I like your coordination idea... that would work, to have you email the next day's targets... I would put up another item on the Take Action page... Can you write a sentence or two to describe this on the website? Any other presentation ideas?

Your reaching out to other bloggers is a good idea as well... I see the links back to the website from other blogs in the server referral logs, if I can find the time, I could write to them as I see them to let them know about the campaign... but this may take more time than I have... maybe you or someone else could be in charge of that... I could send a daily email with the links to all the blogs I see in the logs, and that person could send in an email or comment to each blog

        •  The targets I'm going after (none)
Is every paper that printed the story is a non-story.  I think I will use some of my incindiary prose to wake them up.
